The Division of International Support for Korean Studies at the Center for International Affairs of the Academy of Korean Studies held the 180th Colloquium on Korean Studies Abroad on December 22, 2023, at the Munhyeonggwan Grand Conference Room. This colloquium provided an opportunity to present the research results of Professor Ji Young Kim (The City University of New York), a 2023 fellowship recipient, and doctoral graduate Iris Kim (Columbia University), who visited Korea.

Dr. Ji Young Kim presented "Parasitic Liberation: Kim Malbong's Novel and Women's Movement under the US Military Occupation," examining the postcolonial and post-Cold War implications of Korean literature during the liberation period and the early years of government establishment in both Koreas amid the rapidly changing Cold War order. Iris Kim presented "Remapping Separated Families in East Asia, 1945-1970s," analyzing the phenomenon of separated families between South Korea, Japan, and North Korea from 1945 to the 1970s through literature and various media.

The colloquiums drew many researchers and graduate students, who shared their opinions. The Division of International Support for Korean Studies will continue to organize events to promote communication among local and foreign researchers.
