The Center for International Affairs (CEFIA) of the Academy of Korean Studies, under the Ministry of Education, was founded in March 2003 to carry out the role of supplying knowledge on Korean history and culture to the world.

2018. 11. Seminar is held to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Understanding Korea Project
2015. 01. Change in projects managed by the Center: begin managing International Support for Korean Studies project and relinquish duties related to dispatching lecturers
2014. 03. Conclusion of Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs MOU on Project Cooperation: Understanding Korea Project conducted in cooperation with public diplomacy projects
2013. 07. Textbook exhibition is held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Understanding Korea Project
2010. 06. Societas Koreana project launched

2009. 01. Center begins managing Global Forum on Civilization and Peace
2007. 07. Online service Korean Studies Net launched
2006. 05. Core University Program for Korean Studies launched
2006. 01. The International Support for Korean Studies project is taken over by the CEFIA from the Korea Research Foundation (current National Research Foundation)
2005. 03. Name changed to the Center for Exchange of Korean Culture
2003. 03. Center for International Korean Culture founded Understanding Korea Project launched
