국제교류처 해외한국학지원실에서는 2025년도 5차 <제194회 해외한국학 콜로키움>을 다음과 같이 개최합니다.
'해외한국학 콜로키움'은 '한국학중앙연구원 펠로십' 프로그램의 일환으로 한국에서 한국학 관련 연구를 수행 중인 해외 연구자들이 연구 성과를 발표하는 학술 교류의 장입니다.
이번 콜로키움은 2025년도 한국학중앙연구원 펠로십 수혜자들의 연구 결과를 공유하는 자리로 마련하였으니, 많은 관심과 참여를 부탁드립니다.

North Korean scientists and technical experts have wielded remarkable influence over state policy since the 1950s, from economic planning, infrastructure decisions and agricultural policy. While analyses of North Korean politics typically focus on the charismatic authority of political leaders, this overlooks the important role of scientists and the question of how they have constructed their own basis of legitimacy. This technocratic dimension of governance challenges conventional understandings of power and authority in the DPRK.

This presentation examines the institutional key features of the Catholic Church mobilized as resources that serve as an ‘organizational advantage’ in shaping varying degrees of migrant incorporation in South Korea. Based on multisited ethnography of Catholic Filipino migrant communities and in-depth interviews, the ‘Catholic approach to migration’ in South Korea is investigated within the framework of James Coleman’s notion of appropriable social organization whereby it is not only a formal religious unit with sacred function but it is also a repurposed and rebranded entity that is mobilized for other purposes with (un)intended outcomes such as welfare provision, building of local-national-international networks of care, community formation, and legitimacy for the sociopolitical inclusion of migrants in South Korea. |
