도서 소개

조선 후기 보부상 조직 가운데 ‘저산팔읍 상우무사(苧産八邑 商務右社)’ 관련 고문서를 전수 조사하고 원문을 탈초, 정서, 역주, 해설한 자료집이다. 모시 생산이 많았던 충청남도 서남부 8개 지역에서 활동했던 저산팔읍 상무우사는 1845년 이전 창설된 전국 규모의 보부상 조직의 시초로 추정된다. 책에 실린 99건의 자료는 이들 조직의 구성과 운영의 세부사항, 보부상 조직과 관청 간에 주고받은 민원과 조치 사항 등을 자세하게 전달한다. 근대 이행기 대표적 상인으로 알려진 보부상 조직에 관한 연구를 통해 지역 상업 및 조선 후기 상업사를 깊이있게 이해할 수 있다.

The Questions and their Answers: A New Look into the Korean State Examination System provides a revisionist view of the state examination system (Kr. gwageo or Ch. keju), a long East Asian tradition that has often criticized as an outdated relic of the past. It provides a revisionist view of what the examination system meant to Korea. Topic covered included an overview of the history of the civil service exam in Korea, aspect of the everyday lives of people involved in this system, and detailed analysis (including translations) of the questions and answers asked in civil service examination. In addition to the stunning visual sources, our work will provide new perspectives in understanding one of the longest traditions in Korean history.
