국제교류처 해외한국학지원실에서는 2025년도 6차 <제195회 해외한국학 콜로키움>을 다음과 같이 개최합니다.
'해외한국학 콜로키움'은 '한국학중앙연구원 펠로십' 프로그램의 일환으로 한국에서 한국학 관련 연구를 수행 중인 해외 연구자들이 연구 성과를 발표하는 학술 교류의 장입니다.
이번 콜로키움은 2025년도 한국학중앙연구원 펠로십 수혜자들의 연구 결과를 공유하는 자리로 마련하였으니, 많은 관심과 참여를 부탁드립니다.

No Minute Trend: Selling Time Keeping During the Colonial Period

The Japanese justified Korea’s annexation partly based on locals being behind the time and the common people deserving better governance. Eventually, propaganda and commerce overlapped, as both the government and the business sector insisted on punctuality, while citizens began to proudly wear personal timekeeping instruments. In the presentation, Prof. Maliangkaij will discuss the main approaches watchmakers took to promote their business.

Decolonial Re-membering? The Symbolic Return of Diasporic Heroes to the “Post–Cold War” Korean Peninsula

How does postcolonial cultural memory re-member colonial diasporic subjects? Neither the Japanese contemporaries of the professional wrestler Rikidōzan (1924–63) nor the Russian contemporaries of the Red feminist Alexandra Petrovna Kim (1885–1918) would have predicted their symbolic returns through various media to their divided homeland in the twenty-first century. By juxtaposing two radically different persons who have rarely been discussed in conjunction, this study explores how each has become a memorable trans/national hero of Korean origin who recalls unresolved imperial legacies in an allegedly post–Cold War era. In bringing together old and new narratives about an Asian man and an Asian woman who surpassed imposed boundaries, Prof. Yi’s comparative, intersectional research into their varied representations in novels, comics, and films of the two Koreas and beyond aims to intervene into Euro-American discourses of colonial migration, Cold War internationalism, model minorities, and global multiculturalism. |
