Support for Understanding Korea Alumni

We share the past and present of Korea with textbook experts around the world.
We thoroughly analyze the image of Korea presented in school textbooks published in other countries and suggest ways to improve them.

Overview of Support Programs

The Center for International Affairs of the Academy of Korean Studies is providing financial support to NGOs active in the Understanding Korea project and alumni of Understanding Korea programs.

Eligibility

Those with experience participating in Understanding Korea programs between 2003 and the present, and who voluntarily are engaged in activities which increase the reach of the reach of the Understanding Korea goals.

Field of Support

  • Seminars intended to improve understanding of Korean society and culture targeting overseas elementary, middle, and high school faculty, administrations, and/or textbook authors and editors
  • Events and seminars designed to improve understandings of Korean culture and development which target overseas students (elementary, secondary, and/or university)
  • Development and compilation of educational materials designed for improving the understanding of Korean society and culture by residents of the home country

  • Subject : Korea-Vietnam joint development of a history textbook
  • Content : Korea-Vietnam joint development of a history textbook based on a draft that has remained unpublished.

  • Subject : Bulgarian schools: Getting closer to Korea
  • Content :
    • Creation of e-school textbooks that provide educational materials and information on Korea to students in Bulgaria.
    • Transmission of webinars on the geography, economy and culture of Korea.

  • Name of the Group : Moscow general education school#1257
  • Subject : Russian-Korean interschool relations as a part of on-line education
  • Content :
    • Organization and hosting of international online conferences between schools in Russia and Korea.
    • Holding of Korea-related cultural events including education, culture, food and music in connection with the “Korea Culture Week in Russian Schools”.
    • Development of supplementary textbooks that schools can use on such topics as Korean culture and geography (expanded editions of the 2017 textbooks).

  • Content :
    • Organization of seminars on textbooks published to help teachers, students and experts gain a better understanding of Korean society and culture.
    • Holding of workshops for elementary and middle school teachers, and teachers enrolled on training programs, to further their understanding of Korean culture and (promote?) the growth of Korean culture.
    • Development and distribution of 5 multimedia educational materials (YouTube play academy-type video or model) for moral lessons targeting students aged 15 or more in order to raise their understanding of Korean culture and society.
