AKS’s Center for International Affairs hosted the “Online Seminar for Vietnamese Textbook Experts” on Monday, October 26, 2020. Due to the prolonged effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, this online seminar was held over Zoom.

The online seminar was attended by Professor Nghiem Dinh VyHuyen (Department of History, Hanoi National University of Education), Dr. Pham Thi Thanh (editor of middle school and 6th grade history textbooks), and Dr. Cho Myeongsuk (Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities) from Vietnam. Participants from Korea included Professor Kim Jeongin (Department of Social Studies Education, Chun Cheon National University of Education), Researcher Shin Hangsu (Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation), and Adjunct Professor Park Junghyeon (Department of History, Soongsil University).

Through this online seminar, history teachers from Korea and Vietnam were able to examine how each country is portrayed in the history classes of the other country. Additionally, the participants discussed future cooperation and ways that material on Korean history can be increased and introduced in Vietnam’s history education curriculum.
